Sharks Update
Good afternoon,
I hope you are all doing well! We are on the final countdown for Sharks registration. Registration ends April 30th. There will be NO late registrations accepted. Seriously, no late registrations :) Please do not procrastinate to sign up!!! The sooner the better to help us with planning!
This will be the last e-mail that is also sent to everyone who was on the team in 2020. If you plan to swim again this summer, make sure to register on the homepage of our website. If you are unsure if you've registered correctly, feel free to e-mail me and I can check :)
Here are few common questions I have received along with team updates.
Waitlist: If an age group has already reached its registration limit, please put yourself on the wait list. You do not need to e-mail me, as I will not be able to let you know if they will have a spot on the team until registration is closed.
Expectations of swimmers: As a reminder, this is swim team and not swim lessons. While we will work on technique and help the swimmers to improve, everything is geared towards group instruction. Everyone is expected to be able to swim across the pool on their own. 6 & unders should know freestyle and will learn backstroke. 7 – 8 year olds should know freestyle and backstroke, and will learn butterfly and breaststroke. 9 & ups should have at least a basic knowledge of all four strokes. Coaches will get into the water if needed for the 6 & under age group only. If you have any questions or concerns about your child, just send me a message!
Meet and Greet: We will have a drive by meet and greet on May 4th from 6 – 7 pm!! You will be able to meet some of the coaches (https://alpharettasharks.swimtopia.com/coaches) and pick up your car tag for pick up/drop off. You will also get to meet the teams newest coach Cooper McAlister :) That’s right, I had a baby this year! He’s 11 weeks old, and I’m cherishing every minute. He’s looking forward to meeting everyone and hanging out on the deck this summer!!
Remind: Please take a moment to join our team’s remind. This is how I will send any last minute practice changes, or quick team updates. This will also be a fast way for you to contact me, as it will send me a text message when you reply to messages. This is a different remind from last year, so you need to sign up. Covid Protocols: Right now there are restrictions still in place that will continue to impact our season this summer. We have limits on the number of people that can be on the pool deck. Here are a few things taking place.
- Masks will not be required for swimmers or coaches on the pool deck.
- We will have assigned lanes during practice. We will use the first week of practice to observe swimmer ability and use that to help assign lanes. This will help us with contact tracing, if needed.
- Parents will not be allowed on deck during practices.
- Volunteers will be allowed on deck during meets. Once volunteer positions open, I will send out an e-mail with instructions.
- Swimmers will socially distance on the pool deck and the deck will be marked with tape to help swimmers know where to stand and sit while waiting for practice to begin.
- Temperature checks will be done for every swimmer on a daily basis. It will also be done for volunteers during swim meets.
Meet Schedule: We are waiting on the final schedule from the league coordinator, but it’s anticipated that we will have 5 virtual swim meets, and a championship meet. I will be able to send out more information about meet logistics once registration closes and we know how many swimmers are in each age group. Meets will take place on Thursday nights.
Private Lessons: Some of the coaches are offering private lessons this summer to be able to give more individualized instruction. If you are interested, here is a link with more information: https://alpharettasharks.swimtopia.com/private-les...
Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions!!
Go Sharks!!
Coach Mimo
